The design of this project comes from Darrell Peart. In my opinion he has one of the best takes on the Greene and Greene style. This is also another one out of The Wood Whisperer Guild. Unlike the rest of my house, my ultimate plan for the master bedroom is to have all of the furniture in a similar style, though it is going to take a few years.
This was also a lengthy project. I started it in October 2019 and finished in April 2020. I did have some pauses in there for Christmas gifts, some shop organization projects, and the real job getting in the way. Even not counting all the stops and starts it is still probably one of my longer projects just due to all the fine details.
As usual, most of the wood came from Lumber Logs. Everything is cherry except for the ebony accents. Some of the secondary material for web frames and drawer backs came from stash of sappy cherry I got from Kunz Carpentry Warehouse awhile back. The ebony came from an eBay seller. The side panels are curly cherry veneer from Veneer Supplies. The nightstands are finished with General Finishes Enduro-Var.
It all started with the side panels Routing jig for the legs Web frames Just clamping things down while I left the project for a few days Pillowing the ends a bit Lots of sanding, leather wrapped dowel worked nice. Case assembly Now to get started on the drawers, more work here than on the case Fitting some drawer templates Don’t be like me, there are lefts and rights at this point… ended up having to cut half of them over again. This was a nice jig for drawer glue-up Pounding some square wood through a round hole, aka making dowels Dowels glued in Decent fit, tweaked it more later. Also had a lot of tear-out on my finger joints on the quarter sawn cherry fronts, don’t tell anybody. Starting on the ribbon pulls This mop sander really created a lot of dust! Built a quick sled for cutting small parts at the bandsaw Rarely use the hollow chisel mortiser, but definitely came in handy here Ebony plugs polished up nice Used the drill to sand them all somewhat quickly (still took hours to get them all done) Did final polishing of the plugs here Another jig from Darrel that worked great Remembered to get my brand in there! All done, very happy with how they turned out
